ds-DNA (Double-Stranded) – Antibody by IFA, Serum
Overview
The ds-DNA Antibody by IFA test detects antibodies directed against double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) in the blood. These autoantibodies are associated particularly with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and can support the evaluation of autoimmune disease.
Test Name: ds-DNA (Double Stranded) – Antibody by IFA
Sample Type: Serum
Method: Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)
Why is this test done?
- Evaluation of suspected autoimmune disorders
- Supportive testing for SLE
- Assessment of autoimmune activity when clinically indicated
- May be used alongside ANA and other autoimmune antibody tests
Clinical Significance
A positive result may be seen in SLE and, less commonly, in other autoimmune conditions. Results should be interpreted along with symptoms, clinical examination, and other laboratory findings.
Sample Requirements
Serum sample collected according to laboratory instructions. Fasting is generally not required unless other tests being performed require fasting.
Note: A positive or negative result alone does not establish or exclude a diagnosis. Interpretation should be done by a qualified healthcare professional.
