ds-DNA (Double-Stranded) – Antibody with Reflex Titers by IFA, Serum
Overview
The ds-DNA Antibody with Reflex Titers by IFA test detects antibodies against double-stranded DNA in a serum sample. When the screening result is positive, reflex antibody titers may be performed to help determine the level of antibody reactivity.
Test Name: ds-DNA (Double Stranded) – Antibody with Reflex Titers by IFA
Sample Type: Serum
Method: Indirect Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)
Why is this test done?
- Evaluation of suspected autoimmune disorders
- Supportive evaluation of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
- Further characterization of a positive dsDNA antibody result
- Assessment of antibody reactivity through reflex titration
Clinical Significance
Anti-dsDNA antibodies are strongly associated with SLE. A positive result, particularly at significant titers, can provide useful supporting evidence when interpreted alongside clinical findings and other autoimmune investigations.
Reflex Testing
If the initial dsDNA antibody test meets the laboratory's criteria for reflex testing, titration is performed and reported as an antibody titer.
Sample Requirements
Serum sample. Fasting is generally not required unless other tests ordered with this test require fasting.
Note: Results should be interpreted together with the patient's clinical findings and other laboratory investigations. A positive or negative result alone does not establish or exclude SLE.
