Test Name: Donor Specific IgG Antibodies (DSA), Class I & II
What is the test? Donor Specific Antibodies (DSA) are IgG antibodies in a recipient’s blood that specifically react against HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) molecules of a donor. Testing for both Class I and Class II DSA helps assess immunological compatibility, particularly in transplantation.
Why is it done?
Pre-transplant immunological risk assessment
Detection of antibodies against a potential donor
Evaluation of risk for antibody-mediated rejection (AMR)
Post-transplant monitoring for development or persistence of DSA
Supporting transplant treatment and follow-up decisions
Sample: Serum Method: HLA antibody testing / Single Antigen Bead-based assay, as applicable Reports: Class I & Class II DSA with antibody specificity and relevant antibody strength assessment.
Clinical Significance: The presence, specificity, and strength of DSA may help clinicians evaluate the recipient’s immune response to the donor and determine the potential risk of transplant rejection.
