Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus – House Dust Mite (Specific IgG4)

Test Overview
This blood test measures allergen-specific IgG4 antibodies against Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus, a common house dust mite. Specific IgG4 responses can be associated with immune recognition of mite allergens and may be evaluated in the context of allergic disease and allergen-specific immune responses.

Why is this test done?

• To assess IgG4 sensitization to D. pteronyssinus.

About the Allergen
Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus is a major house dust mite found commonly in bedding, carpets, mattresses and upholstered furniture. Exposure to dust-mite allergens can be associated with allergic respiratory and skin symptoms.

Clinical Note:
A specific IgG4 result should not by itself be used to diagnose or exclude allergy. Interpretation depends on the laboratory's reference range and the patient's clinical history. Specific IgG4 is different from specific IgE, which is the antibody class routinely used for assessing IgE-mediated sensitization to house dust mites.
