Dengue Profile (IgG, IgM, NS1), Quantitative by CLIA, Serum
Test Name: Dengue Profile (IgG, IgM, NS1), Quantitative by CLIA, Serum
Sample Type: Serum
Method: Chemiluminescence Immunoassay (CLIA)
About the Test
The Dengue Profile combines Dengue NS1 Antigen, IgM Antibody, and IgG Antibody testing in a single serum sample. It helps detect dengue infection and provides information about the likely stage of infection.
What Does It Detect?
-
NS1 Antigen: Helps detect dengue infection during the early phase, generally when viral antigen is present.
-
IgM Antibody: Indicates a recent or current dengue infection and usually develops several days after symptom onset.
-
IgG Antibody: May indicate previous exposure or a later-stage/current infection, particularly when interpreted with IgM and clinical findings.
When Is This Test Recommended?
It may be advised in individuals with symptoms suggestive of dengue, such as:
- Fever
- Severe headache
- Pain behind the eyes
- Muscle and joint pain
- Nausea or vomiting
- Skin rash
- Weakness or fatigue
- Unexplained low platelet count
Clinical Significance
Testing NS1, IgM, and IgG together can provide a more comprehensive serological picture than relying on a single marker. Results should be interpreted according to the duration of symptoms, clinical findings, and other laboratory parameters, especially platelet count and hematocrit.
Important Note
A negative result does not always rule out dengue, particularly when testing is performed very early or late in the illness. A healthcare professional should interpret the results in the appropriate clinical context.
Preparation: Usually no special preparation is required.
Sample: Blood/serum sample.
