Test Overview

The Dengue Basic test detects IgM and IgG antibodies against Dengue virus in serum. It helps support the diagnosis of dengue infection and provides an indication of the stage of immune response.

Clinical Significance

• Dengue IgM: Usually indicates a recent or current infection and generally becomes detectable several days after symptom onset.
• Dengue IgG: May indicate past exposure or a later-stage/recurrent dengue infection.
• Results should be interpreted along with symptoms, duration of illness, and other laboratory findings.

When is the Test Recommended?

• Fever with suspected dengue infection
• Severe headache or pain behind the eyes
• Muscle and joint pain
• Nausea or vomiting
• Skin rash
• Unexplained low platelet count
• Suspected recent or previous dengue exposure

Important Note

A negative antibody result does not always exclude very early dengue infection, as antibodies may not yet be detectable. Clinical correlation and repeat testing or additional dengue testing may be advised when clinically indicated.
