Cytopathology – Expert Opinion; Includes FNAC, Cytology
Test Overview: Cytopathology Expert Opinion is a specialized review of cytological specimens by an experienced pathologist/cytopathologist to establish or clarify a diagnosis. The evaluation may include Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) and other cytology specimens.
Includes:
FNAC specimen review
Cytology slide examination
Assessment of cellular morphology
Evaluation for benign, inflammatory, suspicious, or malignant changes
Review of previously prepared cytology slides/reports, when applicable
Expert second opinion in difficult or doubtful cases
Correlation with clinical and imaging findings, where provided
Sample Types: FNAC smears, body fluids, exfoliative cytology specimens, and other cytological preparations as applicable.
Clinical Use: Useful when an initial cytology diagnosis requires specialist confirmation, second opinion, or clarification, particularly in cases with atypical, suspicious, or diagnostically challenging cellular findings.
Reporting: The final report provides the expert cytopathology interpretation and, where appropriate, recommendations for further investigation such as cell block, ancillary testing, immunocytochemistry/IHC, or biopsy.
