• Purpose: Microscopic evaluation of urine cells to detect abnormal, atypical, or malignant cells.
• Clinical Indications:
  • Evaluation of suspected urinary tract malignancy
  • Hematuria (blood in urine)
  • Monitoring patients with a history of bladder/urothelial cancer
  • Investigation of unexplained urinary tract symptoms
• Test Includes: Assessment of cellular morphology for reactive, atypical, suspicious, or malignant urothelial cells and other relevant cellular findings.
• Interpretation: Results should be correlated with clinical findings, imaging, cystoscopy, and other laboratory investigations when appropriate.
• Limitations: A negative result does not completely exclude urinary tract malignancy, as some tumors may shed few or no abnormal cells.
