About the Test:
Cysticercus IgG Antibodies, CSF is a laboratory test used to detect IgG antibodies against Taenia solium (pork tapeworm) cysticerci in cerebrospinal fluid. It is primarily used as an aid in the evaluation of neurocysticercosis, a parasitic infection involving the central nervous system.
Why is this test done?
- Suspected neurocysticercosis
- Seizures or unexplained neurological symptoms
- Headache with suspected CNS parasitic infection
- Evaluation of intracranial cystic lesions
- Supporting diagnosis when imaging findings are suggestive
Sample Required: Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF)
Test Method: Immunological antibody detection assay.
Interpretation:

Positive: Indicates detection of Taenia solium–specific IgG antibodies in CSF and supports the possibility of neurocysticercosis. Results should be correlated with clinical findings and neuroimaging.

Negative: No detectable specific IgG antibodies; however, a negative result does not completely exclude neurocysticercosis.
Important Note: Antibody results should not be interpreted in isolation. Clinical history, neurological examination, MRI/CT findings, and other laboratory investigations may be required for diagnosis.
