What is the test?
Culture & Sensitivity of Urethral Discharge is a laboratory test used to detect aerobic bacteria that may be responsible for infection. The specimen is cultured, and any significant bacterial growth is identified using conventional microbiological methods.

What does the test include?

• Aerobic culture – Detects bacteria that grow in the presence of oxygen.
• Conventional identification – Identifies the isolated bacteria using standard laboratory methods.
• Automated AST on Vitek – Determines the bacteria’s susceptibility or resistance to commonly used antibiotics using the Vitek automated system.

Why is it performed?
The test may be advised when urethral discharge, burning during urination, irritation, or other signs suggest a bacterial infection. The results can help the treating doctor select an appropriate antibiotic when a bacterial pathogen is identified.
