Conventional Identification & Automated AST on VITEK
π¬ What is the test?
This test detects aerobic bacteria that may be causing an eye infection. The eye swab is cultured to identify the causative organism, followed by antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) using the VITEK automated system to determine which antibiotics are likely to be effective.
Antibiotics that may be considered based on the susceptibility pattern
β Why is it useful?
Culture and susceptibility testing can help clinicians identify the causative bacteria and select appropriate antimicrobial therapy, particularly when empirical treatment is unsuccessful or resistance is suspected.
Note: Antibiotic selection should be based on the laboratory report and the treating clinician's assessment.
