Test Overview:
This microbiology test detects and identifies aerobic bacteria that may be present in an eye swab specimen and determines their antimicrobial susceptibility using the automated VITEK system.
Why is this test done?

Method:
🔬 Automated bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing using VITEK, supported by conventional microbiological procedures as applicable.
Test Report May Include:
- Organism identification
- Antimicrobial susceptibility results
- Susceptibility category such as Sensitive, Intermediate, or Resistant, where applicable
Clinical Indications:
Conjunctivitis, keratitis, ocular discharge, postoperative eye infections, suspected bacterial eye infections, and persistent ocular infections.
Important: Appropriate specimen collection before starting antibiotics, whenever clinically feasible, can improve the chance of detecting the causative organism.
