What is the test? Culture & Sensitivity (C&S) of body fluids is a laboratory test used to detect aerobic bacterial infections. The isolated bacteria are identified using the VITEK automated identification system, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) helps determine which antibiotics are likely to be effective.
Sample Type:
Body fluids such as CSF, pleural fluid, synovial fluid, peritoneal/ascitic fluid and other clinically indicated sterile body fluids.
Susceptibility interpretation such as Sensitive, Intermediate, or Resistant, as applicable
Important: Results depend on the quality and timing of specimen collection and prior antibiotic exposure. Interpretation should be correlated with the patient's clinical findings by the treating healthcare professional.
