Culture & Sensitivity testing of an OT (Operation Theatre) swab is performed to detect and identify aerobic bacteria that may be associated with surgical-site or postoperative infections.
π§ͺ What Does the Test Detect?
Aerobic bacterial growth from the collected OT swab
Identification of the causative bacterial organism
Antibiotic susceptibility/resistance pattern
Antibiotics that are likely to be effective against the identified organism
π― Why Is It Done?
This test may be recommended when there is suspicion of:
Surgical-site infection
Postoperative wound infection
Infected surgical wounds or discharge
Persistent redness, swelling, pain, or pus around a surgical site
Culture and AST can help clinicians identify the responsible bacteria and select appropriate antibiotic therapy, supporting targeted treatment and antimicrobial stewardship.
Note: Results should be interpreted along with the patient's clinical findings by the treating healthcare professional.
π·οΈ Short Description
