Culture & Sensitivity – Clot, Aerobic Bacteria, Salmonella Species
Test Name: Culture Clot, Aerobic Bacteria, Salmonella Species – Conventional Identification & AST
Purpose: This test is used to detect and identify Salmonella species from a clot specimen and determine their antimicrobial susceptibility.
What the test detects:
Aerobic bacterial growth
Salmonella species
Identification of the isolated organism using conventional microbiological methods
Antibiotic susceptibility through AST (Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing)
Sample Type: Clot / blood clot specimen, collected as per laboratory instructions.
Method: Conventional bacterial culture, biochemical identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
When it may be advised:
Suspected Salmonella infection
Enteric/typhoid fever investigation
Persistent fever with clinical suspicion of bacterial infection
Follow-up of suspected bloodstream infection, as clinically indicated
Result Interpretation:
No growth: No aerobic bacterial growth detected under the test conditions.
Salmonella species isolated: The report identifies the organism and provides its antimicrobial susceptibility pattern.
AST results help the treating clinician select an appropriate antibiotic.
Important: Antibiotics should be selected based on the culture and susceptibility report together with the patient's clinical condition. A negative culture does not always completely exclude infection, particularly if antibiotics were taken before specimen collection.
