Overview

The Beta 2 Glycoprotein 1 (β2GP1) IgA Antibody test measures IgA antibodies directed against beta-2 glycoprotein 1, a protein involved in blood clotting. It is primarily used as part of the evaluation for Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), particularly when IgG and IgM antibodies are negative but clinical suspicion remains high.

Interpretation

• Negative: IgA antibodies not detected.
• Positive: May indicate the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies and should be interpreted along with clinical findings and other laboratory tests (IgG, IgM β2GP1 antibodies, anticardiolipin antibodies, and lupus anticoagulant).

Note: A positive result alone does not confirm Antiphospholipid Syndrome. Clinical correlation and repeat testing after at least 12 weeks may be recommended.
